Mayflex hits the Wall for Alzheimer’s Society

£20 banknotes spread unevenly over a surface.

A team of eight staff from distributor Mayflex have taken part in a 23-mile trek along Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society, raising £8000 to date.

The walk was estimated to take a minimum of 12 hours but two members of the Mayflex MAD team were in the first few to finish, with a time of just under nine hours with the remaining team all crossing the finish line at Lanercost Priory within 10 hours.

Dementia is an extremely cruel disease and whether it’s Vascular Dementia or Alzheimer’s the conclusion is the same, it slowly but surely destroys the mind and personality of the person and takes away their ability to do anything for themselves.

Tracey Calcutt (pictured middle), marketing manager says that they chose the charity as there were a number of employees of Mayflex that have close relatives that suffer from dementia.

“The weather wasn’t overly kind to us with heavy rain showers throughout the day, but the temperature was good for walking and thankfully we all had waterproof clothing that kept most of the rain at bay,” she explains. “The actual walk itself was quite tough and particularly the first half which was the most challenging with steep climbs and descents, that wasn’t helped by the rain which made the stone paths extremely slippy.

“Thank you to everyone that has sponsored us, we very much appreciate the support and it’s not too late for anyone wishing to, simply visit https://www.justgiving.com/MayflexTeam.
